When amending existing soil, use a ratio of 1 part compost to 2-3 parts native soil for best results.
Aerate your lawn, then apply ¼ to ½ inch of compost as a topdressing. Gently rake into the soil, reseed if needed, and water thoroughly. Best applied in spring or fall.
Use 2-3 inches as a protective layer around plants to suppress weeds and retain moisture. Reapply annually as it breaks down.
Apply 1-3 inches of compost on top of garden beds and either rototill or mix into the existing soil. For established beds, use as a top dressing around plants.
Spread 2-4 inches of compost and work into the top 6-8 inches of soil before planting.
Apply 2-3 inches around the base (avoid direct contact with trunks), extending to the drip line. Do not pile against stems.
